Science!

Today, a quick mystery for all of you to ponder, as I am pondering it. I will probably continue somewhat quiet thereafter as I’m in a period wherein my sleep cycles are screwed up, so I have to ride it out somewhat zombie-like. (In a doctor’s office, I once read one of those women’s magazine articles about losing weight or decreasing stress or being happier, or discovering the secret to telepathy…one of those things. Anyway, being as sleep is good for you, it rather fatuously advised you to go to bed fifteen minutes earlier each night until the wondrous feelings were attained. Oh, to be a person where being in bed correlates with when my biorhythms decide I will be asleep…)

But on to the mystery. For the last few days, my left shoelace–and only my left shoelace–has been coming undone once or twice a day. I’ve had these shoes for months, and always double knots have served to keep them in line. Now only the left one comes undone. Being as it is Wednesday, new Mythbusters night, I have been trying to come up with some way to test what might be causing this. Switch which foot I tie first in the morning? The trouble is, if it’s a function of handedness or gate, I can’t exactly flip those briefly. I don’t have a shoe-tying robot, either, so the pressure I exert on the knot is destined to be inexact. Foiled!
