Work conversations

Today at work we were in the process of cleaning out our lab and storage space downstairs a little. One of my coworkers discovered a proof sheet and set of negatives tucked away on a shelf somewhere, and started taking it around to all the bosses who had been with the company long enough to possibly remember what project it had been from. This conversation happened in my office when Boss #2 brought the sheet to Boss #1 who was talking to me (I swear, this is verbatim):

Boss #2 (Historic archaeologist): That’s a pestle!
Boss #1 (Pre-contact archaeologist): No, it’s not!
Boss #2: Yes, it is!
Boss #1: No, it isn’t!
Boss #2: Well, that looks like a snake.
Boss #1: Like it’s Central America or something.
Boss #2: Whose cat is that?
Officemate: Meg had a cat.
Boss #1: They’re photographing scratches on the rocks. They had those in that fiber optic project.
Boss #2: Oh, yeah. In Oregon.

It was the fiber optic project in Oregon, it turned out. No word on whose cat it was. (Not Meg’s.)
